Learning to sail is an enjoyable and adventurous journey for all kids! Not only is sailing about having fun, but it teaches young kids how to be independent, resilient, and how to work towards achieving their goals. At Manly 16’s, our sailing program is designed to support sailors in their desire to learn, have fun, and experience competitive racing in a welcoming club.
About The Course
Our program is perfectly suited for kids aged 7-12 to learn the basic sailing skills required to crew or steer a small dinghy. Over 13 weeks of Sunday morning sailing, your kids will enjoy a range of activities to learn basic essential knowledge and of course, have FUN! This course is delivered by accredited Australian Sailing Instructors and experienced sailors from the club.
Our 13-week course will take place on Sunday mornings, between 8:30am and 10:30am, commencing in October.
There is a break over the Christmas and New Year holiday period while there are sailing regattas on Sydney Harbour. The course continues through the remainder of the Club’s sailing season, before finishing in March.
What happens after the course is finished?
The next stage of Junior Sailing at Manly 16’s is to progress into the Manly Junior & Flying 11 classes. The Junior fleets run regular weekend racing with on-water coaches supporting the sailors. Junior sailing parents are encouraged to be actively involved with the program either on or off the water. Both kids and parents have the opportunity to meet lots of new people, form lifelong friendships, and have fun! To learn more about this, please contact us and we would love to help you get involved.
The 2019/20 Course is now fully booked, however, you are welcome to contact our Coach to discuss placing your child on our wait list.
